Taking a breather

Near my workplace, there's a serene lakeside which I would go once in a while to listen to the seagulls and absorb the beauty of nature. Well, today I went there for a walk and took a few pictures to share with you guys.

2012 trailer

Hehe, more end of the world stuff, watch the trailer below and enjoy this movie which is coming in November.

So, what's your first impression after watching the trailer? For me, I think it uses too many visual effects. Although they are rendered beautifully using superb computer graphics, I do hope that they won't spoil the movie. Anyway, I am gonna watch this movie no matter what. It is an irony that Sony Pictures will create a movie based on one of the hottest news (or hoax) out there that the world is going to end in December 21, 2012... *thinking*

Pomegranate Phone NS08

Wow, I came across this revolutionary phone while I was browsing the Net. Take a look at the video below and marvel at this next-gen smart phone.

Ok, so what do you think? Too good to be true? Nah..sadly.

After some researching, I found out that this Pomegranate phone is actually part of a $300,000 ad campaign put together by Nova Scotia, the small province in southeastern Canada. The website is part of the Nova Scotian government's "Come to Life" ad campaign, which hopes to build interest in the province virally through nontraditional means.

I was pretty sad when I knew this is just a fictional phone, but I know it has lit up the ideas of many phone-makers out there. The function I like the most is the projector function which is super cool in my opinion. The language translation is also super useful, lessening the barriers while communicating with people of other races. On the other hand, the coffee-making, razor, and harmonica is just too flashy I think. Anyway, I know that phones like this will be available in the near future, just don't know when.

The Unresting World

Lately, news of earthquakes has been hitting the globe. First in Phillipines, then in Samoa, and now in Indonesia. 3 earthquakes in the same month. How scary can that be. Even some of my friends in Malaysia felt the tremors from the latest earthquake in Indonesia.

Come to think of it, is it really gonna be the end of the world according to the Mayan culture? The date that this world will end is prophesized on December 21, 2012. That means it will be around 3 years 3 months from now. Well, believers of such an incident must have their minds strengthened after these earthquakes happening.

In my opinion, Mother Nature is sometimes benevolent and sometimes cruel. It all depends on humanity. If we don't take care of our world now, it will be too late. So let us all try our best in helping the world, no matter how tiny our actions is, it will be seen and felt. Before the world ends (or maybe not), let's not have any regrets...

A Day in my Cousin's Apartment

A day off means staying at home or go hang out with my friends. For today, I chose the latter. We have been planning to hang out for some time and today's the day. I set off around 12.30pm, taking the subway to Manhattan to meet up with them. I reached there a bit late (25 minutes) because of bad time management and subway stalls. Upon arrival, I saw two more new members, PJ and Yin Thing (supposedly just meeting up with Sofie and Ing Chian [my cousin]). Well, the more, the merrier and now there are five of us.

Lunch time is taken care of at a dim sum restaurant, which I found to be just so-so. I think the one in Flushing is much better. The restaurant is pretty big but I think it is understaffed so the service is not really good. Later on, we took a car service to my cousin's apartment. The apartment is located in the heart of Wall Street. A good location but the rent is madness to me. $1800 a month, that is like 3.5 times my current rent. The place was not bad, there is also a gym and a lounge where people can hang out. We played cards and drank some red wine, hit some pool and played some foosball. And the main event for that night is a Monopoly game, a simple game but it brings a lot of fun and laughter. We chose a Transformers version of the Monopoly because there are things missing from the original one (yea, board games are also provided in the lounge, and there are a shitload of them).

Anyway, I took some pictures and here you go:

Overall, a pretty interesting day!

Something not to be frowned upon

Sometimes, I feel that how nice it would be if our brain is like a computer. Something that we can control, something that we can modify, or something that we can delete. Painful memories are not supposed to be kept inside the brain. Imagine if we could keep all the happy memories and delete or the sad ones, it will be great.

Saying this, it's not that I am not happy, just a little sad over something which I shouldn't feel sad upon. Emotions and feelings are a big bad wolf at this point, taking over my better judgment. If one and one doesn't make two, there's no point in trying to think of a way to make it true. One and one can only be two, it can never be three or four.

The best that I could do is to turn this into a motivation. It's like turning stone to gold, turning water to ale. There are many things that I need to do at this point and I can't let this be an obstacle. Hopefully, I will be able to overcome this ordeal, or succumb to my inner feelings and die trying...

September Wind

I walked under the moon's bright light,
As I was taking a stroll one night;
The September wind was harsh and cold,
But I continued walking as if I were bold...

A lot of things were on my mind,
Most of my problems are one of a kind;
Be it the past, the present or the future,
I realized that I am still not mature...

I walked past a sleeping old man,
In front of him was a rusty tin can;
Filled with some coins and one dollar bills,
"A sad sight," that's how I feel...

Even when things go awfully wrong,
I always try to sing a happy song;
Sometimes I will be out of breath,
Sometimes I don't even have time to rest...

As I reached home after the walk,
The September wind is still blowing leaves and stalks;
Before I go to bed and sleep,
I will try my best, not to weep...

A hair cut and a Mooncake

Well, today's my off day again and my routine on this day repeats itself. Woke up in the morning, went for a hair cut (everytime I got a hair cut, it just doesn't seem right), deposit money into my checking account, bought lunch, *free time*, dinner time with Sky, and back home. Maybe I am used to this routine so it never gets boring. Of course, I hope something exciting will happen but life is as dull as a faded chalkboard.

Anyway, one of my auntie roomies gave me a mooncake. It was a kind gesture and I really appreciate it. She gave me a double yolk one (which is my favorite of all) but I haven't eat it yet (maybe for supper tonight). Kind of miss the days when I was young with my siblings. During the mooncake festival, we will light candles outside the porch and carry lanterns around. It was a good adventure taking that lantern and walk one big round along the dark corridors of my auntie's house. Of course, I was afraid of ghosts at that time (so am I now) but I try my best cause I am the eldest >.<''

So for today, I got a hair cut and a mooncake. Not exactly something big to be excited over, but well, at least it's something...

America's Got Talent Semi-Finals

Finally, the top 20 acts for the semifinals have been chosen. They are:

Acrodunk, Kevin Skinner, Grandma Lee, Drew Thomas Magic, Arcadian Broad, Tony and Rory, Paradizo Dance, Texas Tenors, Voices of Glory, Fab Five, Lawrence Beamen, Hairo Torres, Jeffrey Ou, Mario and Jenny, Footworkingz, Recycled Percussions, Eriam Sisters, Drew Stevyns, Barbara Padilla, and Erik and Rickie.

Personally, I think the selection is not too bad except there are too many singers. As usual, singing acts are a favorite among many people. Here, I would like to give my opinion on the judges reaction on Jeffrey Ou's qualification. What is with the exaggerated and shocked expression when he was selected, especially Sharon? Against Bri, I think he got a pretty good chance of winning. Besides, it's not his fault that one of the dancers accidentally kicked the audio cable out, making the last half of the performance inaudible. I am really happy that America voted him back. I personally think he has talent.

Anyway, kinda looking forward to next week's semifinals. It's gonna be an intense one. Will update when the finalists are chosen two weeks from now.

Destination Truth Season 3

Wow! Finally! Destination Truth is back!

For its 3rd season, one of my favorite shows on TV will be back on the screen on 09/09/09 (September 9th, 2009). Destination Truth is a show following explorer, Josh Gates with his team of researchers to exotic locations around the world investigating cyrptozoological stuff and paranormal activities. This show is exactly what I would love. With his sense of humor, his knowledge, and his courageous acts, Josh Gates is fun to watch. Besides, I think the viewers can learn a lot about the different places that they will travel to.

In the 3rd season, they will explore: (Details found on the Net)

- A mystery in Alaska
- A mystery in Florida (something in the Everglades maybe)
- The ghost towns of Chernobyl
- Lake mystery in Eastern Turkey
- The Bermuda Triangle (wow!)
- A return to the Himalayan mountains for another look at the Yeti (the first one was fun)
- World's first overnight exploration of King Tut's cursed tomb (world's first?!! cool..)
- Pitch-black dives in ancient Caribbean caves (can't wait for this one)

So I can't really wait till September 9th for this show to start. I was hooked to this show after i watched one of the episodes. I still remember it was about a haunted mosque in Kuala Lumpur (the capital city of my hometown, Malaysia). Anyway, if you are a fan of cryptozoology or paranormal, check this show out. This show beats Monster Quest hands down by the way. Really hate the re-enactments of the events in Monster Quest. Looks stupid to me. Kudos to Destination Truth...

Red Eye

As of late, the heat is still killing me. Everytime on my off day when I am at home, I felt like being trapped in a sauna room with no way out. Oh, the heat....Somebody please put an end to this madness...

Besides that, my left eye seems to be affected by dust or something. It has been four days now with the redness appearing everytime I woke up, and then it gets better towards the night. This cycle has been repeating for four days. I have tried applying eye drops but it can seem to recover completely. Maybe my room has too much dust >.<

What i really want now is to hope that my eye gets better. When I am not feeling well, it is hard for me to concentrate on the more important tasks I have at hand. Please be well...

Carom Cafe

Today was another off day as usual, woke up in the morning, ate lunch, took an afternoon nap... and woke up to a call from my friend, Sky around 7.40pm. We went for dinner together at our usual haunt, and for the first time in Flushing, we decided to do something. Usually after a meal, we just went home but today is different. I suggested we go play pool and off we go looking for the place that I wanted to go for some time but never had the chance to.

We reached Carom Cafe around 9.05pm. I always pass by this place but never went in. As we check out the place, I think it's a pretty cool one. There are pool tables, ping pong tables, poker tables, and even a small game room. There are also several tables for what I call the 'Korean pool' because the tables are the same size with the pool tables except they have no holes. Until now, I can't understand the game as the players keep hitting the ball around. Looks boring to me anyway. After checking out the place, we got ourselves a table and off we start...

Sky's skill in pool is better than I thought. Or maybe I have lost my touch I don't know. Haven't played this game in a while but that's not a good excuse. Sky got a lead ahead of me by winning 4-2 games. Luckily for me, I managed to caught up back to 4-4 (8 games) but the time is up. Not wanting to waste more money for that extra time, we packed up and paid at the counter. It was a tie game today but it was fun. Not to mention the cute Korean girl in front of the counter. After that, we went home and after taking a shower, here I am writing this entry...Anyway, it's not a bad day after all~~

Hot Rain

Lately, the weather's been very very hot. To make things worse, it is basically raining everyday too. What can be worst than being sticky and wet at the same time when you are walking the streets?

My room is like an oven now. Even with my windows open, the air can't seem to circulate in. Besides that, my body is in a constant sweating mode. Feels so sticky that I can take a shower up to three times a day. Even with the Chinese proverb that says, 心静自然凉 is without any use. By the way, I just finished my lunch while watching the latest episode of America's Got Talent. Felt really bad for those that didn't made it to L.A but this is life. Some win, some lose.

Thought I could go out and have fun today since it's my off day but the damn rain and heat spoiled everything. I guess I should just do some research at home and watch some movies.

Verdict: I seriously need an air-con if I still wanna stay alive...

Standstill

Lately, life has been a monotonous routine of eat, work, and sleep. Like a quote in Stephen King's book, life is SSDD (Same Shit, Different Day). Everyday is repetitive, same old shit. I can't seem to find the spark in life. Maybe I am just too tired. Sometimes, I just wanna succumb to the fatigue hammering at my legs, or even my soul. But I know life's journey is hard. With a new found motivation, I hope I can keep running this race. An arduous and long journey awaits me, the main concern being the ability to reach the end of the road. Just like RPG games too, I really wish that I can finish the quest with a couple of comrades. Don't really like soloing the whole thing. Anyway, here I come, the toughest and most critical point of my life, before the end of the world...

Short trip to Times Square

Around 5pm today, I went to Times Square to meet up a few friends. Woke up from a short afternoon nap, took a shower, and off I went. Upon reaching there, I met up with everyone outside Sephora; Lai Yeng, Yee Von, Sofie, Richard (didn't know he was here), and Joanne (a new girl I met whom is Yee Von's friend). Well, the more the merrier. After chatting on the sidewalk for a bit, we went for dinner. We picked Dallas Barbeque. After ordering our food, we continued for a chat. Joanne left halfway cause she had something to do. Found out later that she plays DotA, but too late to chat cause she already left. When the food arrived, I realized it looked like (pardon me for saying this) dogfood. Everything was piled in a mess on the platter. The steak, ribs, shrimp, and fries looked like a jumbled mess. To be honest, the food isn't that really up to standard too. Only the ribs is a bit better than the rest. Anyway, after dinner, we hung out in Richard's hotel room. A pretty-well furnished and comfy place for a hefty price of $199 before tax. Of course, there's a price to pay for everything good right? After chilling, we went our seperate ways home. All in all, a short trip to catch up with a few friends that I haven't met for a while.

The Humidity

Lately, it's getting pretty humid in New York City. Because of the rainy nights, heat tend to build up and concentrate in a certain place. To battle the heat, I only have a desk fan in my room, whose power is pretty weak. Maybe it's time for me to get an air-conditioner? But this would mean an increase in my monthly rent too, a $50increase. Kinda stupid for them to increase rent because of an air-con right? They say the usage of electricity is more with the air-con. That's the way things work here, in an Asian community, money is everything.

While eating a Haagen Daaz vanilla ice cream and staring at the 'starless' sky, I thought about my future. Now is the time for me to step on the accelerator. Time waits for no man and certainly not me. There are too many things to do, too many decisions to make. I guess it's time to buckle up!

iPhone 3GS

Finally, after one month of waiting, AT&T finally got my shit done. Actually, it wasn't really their fault but the problem lies with the salesperson that attended to me. Maybe he was new, or maybe he was lazy I dunno. Luckily, I got in touch with a new rep and she's good and quick at what she does.

So, I returned my 3G in exchange for a new 3GS. The shell is still the same except the processor is 50% faster, which I think is just a little bit faster compared to the previous one. The camera is 3.2 mp now, with the ability to take videos. Well, that's pretty much it. Just for the sake of a free upgrade, why not? ;)

Harper's Island Finale

WARNING: ULTIMATE SPOILERS AHEAD!

Finally, the last episode of Harper's Island is out. And this means that the killer is revealed. Besides John Wakefield as the murderer, there's an accomplice that helps him set traps and kill. The mystery person is none other than Henry Dunn, the so-called protagonist of the show! He plays the role of a nice guy, someone who is happy because he is getting married on the island. But all this is just a ploy to get Abby back to the island.

Everything is planned perfectly. Henry even got Jimmy to be his scapegoat for all the murders that happened. As an abandoned orphan, Henry is really pissed with his family. Besides that, Henry did all that just hoping that he could be with Abby forever on the island. He did it for love, which I think is pretty sad. After the whole ordeal, only four survivors are left; Shea, Madison, Abby, and Jimmy. Everyone else was killed on the island.

In a nutshell, I think this series is a pretty good one. With enough horror elements and suspense and a short number of episodes, it serves its purpose of being a scary murder mystery series. Although some of the acting is mediocre, the whole plot is still enough to keep the series going. I really hope there would be more series like this. Peace out!

Why I love America's Got Talent

America's Got Talent has always been one of my favorite TV variety shows. Entering it's fourth season, it is still as exciting as ever. Never fails to make me laugh, make me (nearly) cry, get me motivated, and learn new things from the show.

For those of you who don't know, America's Got Talent is a talent show with no age limit and you can perform anything you want on the stage. Created by Simon Cowell, this show is very interesting to watch. There's a new host, Nick Cannon, however whom I think is not that good compared to the previous hosts. The judges, Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, and David Hasselhoff, are pretty good and funny at judging the contestants. My favorite judge is Piers Morgan, because he's a really straight-to-the-point guy with witty comments and harsh words.

This show has produced a lot of celebrities. Winners from the past three seasons, Bianca Ryan (Season 1), Terry Fator (Season 2), and Neil E. Boyd (Season 3) has all became celebrities, especially Terry Fator, the ventriloquist who is very popular in Las Vegas now.

Some of the acts are common, such as dancing and singing. But sometimes, we can see many hilarious and out-of-this-world acts. Of course, there are acts which is plain stupid, but still fun to watch. Season 4 is currently in it's sixth episode. It is still the qualifying rounds to Las Vegas now, and things are gonna heat up during the Las Vegas auditions. I wonder who will be the winner for this season. Can't wait! Keep up the good work NBC!

Happy Birthday America

July 4th is here. Independence day means a public holiday means a long weekend for most people. But not for me, I still have to work half day.

Today, fireworks display will be shown at the Hudson River instead of the East River in NYC. Whenever I heard of this fireworks, I will remember a hilarious incident with Mickey that got us into trouble with our boss. At that time, we worked deliveries. Since business wasn't good (it was July 4th), we hung out at the bridge and watched the fireworks. Our phones didn't rang so we thought there's no delieveries to be made. What we didn't know is that (I learnt a lesson from this) when there's a lot of people grouped at one certain place, and I mean a LOT of people, the phone signals will be screwed. It will be hard to make a phone call or receive one. But we didn't know that. After the fireworks (which is pretty cool), we made our way out of the crowd and we received voicemails, the boss asking where the hell are we both. Since the boss couldn't find us, he made the deliveries himself. And the two of us are pretty screwed. =)

Anyway, today's gonna be a regular day for me but for all Americans, it's gonna be special. Hope everyone will have fun and enjoy the holidays!

The End of June

A day off today so it's time for some activities. Around 1pm, Kww, Sakura, and me met Sky for lunch. We ate at a place called 'Restaurant Malaysia' (oh, the irony of the name LOL) which pretty much said what kind of food it serves. Food was okay here as it is quite the same taste as the food found in my home country, Malaysia.

After that, the three of us set off on a trip to the Statue of Liberty. Sky did not join us as he had a class to attend. We took the number 1 train to Southferry Seaport, bought a ticket for the ferry, and off we go. The weather was pretty good, with the sun shining, some nice breeze and all. Seagulls tried to fight against the wind but gave up in the end and floated along with it. The ferry was a little rocky and the waves a bit rough because of the high tide. On the ferry, I met a Russian girl named Kez. Pretty good looking and should be around her 20s. I kinda admired her because she traveled alone to visit places of interest in New York. Chatted with her for a while and then said our goodbyes as the ferry reached the island.

This is my second time to visit the statue (which I found to be quite plain) and there's really nothing much to do. The only thing we can do is take pictures and more pictures. There's a small souvenir shop that sells memorabilia, paraphernalia, and stuff. After going one round across the statue, it's time to head home. The ferry stopped next at Ellis Island and we headed down. Just then, the accumulating bad weather turned on us and drizzles of rain began to fell. There's nothing we could do and we queued up again for the ride home to NYC. It was very packed and humid as the rain fell harder and harder. Not exactly a comfy situation but we just have to bear with it.

We got on the subway next and stopped at Grand Central to see if the rain has subsided. It was still raining heavily so we took the number 7 train home. We then ate dinner at a restaurant (Chinese name) and at last, we went out seperate ways home. All in all, it was quite a fun day at first but turned boring in the end. I hate rainy days, made me all wet as I didn't carry an umbrella.

Well, this is the end of June and July begins tomorrow. Half a year passed by in an instance. Time is a really scary thing, seems to fly by and waits for no one. Hopefully, the rest of the year will be a better one for me. Godspeed.

Raining Ice

While working today, an impending thunderstorm started strangely. I know the weather is gonna rain today but I never expected this. Round chunks of ice fell just as the sky darkened. The whole place echoed with loud thuds of ice falling on the roof. It was kinda awesome to be there cause you don't get to see this type of phenomenon very often. After five minutes, the ice rain subsided and regular rain fell. During the event, I took a few pictures...

These are the ice chunks that fell from the sky:

Aren't they pretty and strange? There's a cloudy part in the middle while the outside is clear.

Well, it certainly is a strange thing. I heard some people say these type of phenomenon brings bad luck. But what I think is the Heavens are crying for the two departed celebrities, Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett.

Peace of Mind

Lately, there are too many things on my mind. I realized that there are many important decisions to make that will affect my future. That is why I really need to focus and take a deep breath. I need to have a peace of mind so that my judgment will not be clouded.

So I say to myself, "Relax, take a deep breath and let it go.."

Whatever happens in the future, there's nothing we can do to change it. Either now or never...no regrets....

A Stroll by the Beach

Seagulls sang playfully in the air,
The wind gently caressed our hair;
Hand in hand we strolled down the beach,
Never once our distance was out of reach...

As we both sat down on the sand,
A pod of dolphins came by then;
They jumped and chased and swam around,
And I saw a smile replaced your frown...

The rolling waves moved in and out,
Like a soothing melody that is not too loud;
Just then you whispered in my ear,
"Thanks for everything, I love you dear..."

Evening came and the sun moved down,
Disappearing into the sea like a giant crown;
Night came and the stars appear,
I am beside you, there's nothing to fear...

As we fell asleep on the golden sand,
Both of us are still holding hands;
When you rest your head on my shoulder,
I hope that time will freeze forever.

P.S Just a poem that depicts a romantic stroll by the beach. I have always been a nature lover so there are many natural elements in my poem. Well, hope you guys will like it! All feedback, critics, and comments are welcomed on my poems. ;)

Happy Father's Day

Just a short post to wish all the Dads in the world (and my dad, of course) a

Happy Father's Day!!

Treasure the times spent with your Dad. Bring your Dad out for dinner or something fun. For those who are living apart from your Dad, remember to call home. A simple telephone call may not mean much to you but it means a lot to them. Buy presents if you can afford it. Lastly, I hope everyone will have fun on this day.

P.S Today is also one of my buddies, Jeslyn's birthday. Just wanna take the chance here to wish her a 'Happy Birthday!'

iPhone OS 3.0

Finally, the new OS for iPhone is out! 3.0 consists of a lot of new features. If you have an iPhone, you can download and install the software using iTunes. Just connect your iPhone to the computer and it will automatically request to download and install for you. For those of you who wanna check out the new features, you can go here.

On June 19th, the new iPhone 3G[S] will also be out. Lots of people will be queueing up for this new baby. It is an irony that these iPhones are updated every year. New models kept on appearing just like computers and other technological gadgets. It is hard for the consumers to just keep up with the latest model unless they are filthy rich.

Anyway, one must learn to be content with what they have. Only buy a new phone if you have the means to take care of the costs. Otherwise, just use a cheap phone. It all boils down to the same function: to call another person. ^_^

Cold Summer

Strangely, the weather seems to be kinda cold in NYC for the past few days. It is summer time now, with the hot sun glaring but it is still cold sometimes. I wonder if it is because of the rain or something else.

Yes, it has been raining quite a lot recently. And I hate the rain! I hate wet and damp weathers because it makes me lazy to even wanna do something. The worst thing is I met a drunk customer today. Said a lot of bullcrap to me and gave me many problems but as a patient guy and a good worker, I can't flare up. Well, I don't pick fights with drunk people anyway.

Since the weather is unpredictable these days, I hope you guys can really take care of yourselves. This type of weather can make people fall sick easily. In addition to that, the H1N1 (swine flu) is still around. So I think it's best to stay indoors if you are not working. Take care all, and let's hope the real summer will come soon.

Happy Birthday to Me

Today's a really great day. I took the day off to celebrate my birthday in advance with my friends, So Fie, Jeslyn, Sky, and my cousin, Ing Chian. We met and gathered around 2.40pm and off we go to have lunch. Since Sky is working, we had lunch first at a Malaysian restaurant in Manhattan called 'Nyonya.' Then, Sky joined us and we headed to the cinema for a movie.

After discussing, we watched 'Night at the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian.' To be honest, I think the movie is not that good. Nearly fell asleep at times. The humour is bland and too many characters make it hard for the viewers to focus. After the movie, we went to Starbucks to grab a cup of coffee. Then, we took a stroll along the area. I realized there are quite a number of parks in Manhattan. We goofed around and took some pictures.

The Statue of I-don't know-who

Act cool....or not

Starbucks FTW

Come dinner time, we ate a restaurant called 'Cafetasia.' An asian food menu combined with a dark-candle-lighted atmosphere makes this place a good choice. The food was pretty good too with a kinda cheap price tag. After dinner, we went our seperate ways and headed home.

All in all, I would really like to thank everyone who celebrated my birthday with me. I was quite touched with everything especially to a certain someone who made my day a lot special. Thanks for being the most caring and considerate person in the world.

Lastly, I just wanna say Happy Birthday to me. Hope the wish(es) I made will come true. *winks*

P.S Well, my real face finally revealed for the first time. Just an average guy right? LOL

Primeval: Going Extinct Soon?

Being a big fan of tv series, I watched a lot of series from different countries. And one of them is called 'Primeval', a series about a team of scientists investigating so-called anomalies containing prehistoric and futuristic creatures that came to the present. This series is a British series.

I was hooked after watching Season 1 because I think this show is pretty interesting. Different creatures (usually dinosaurs and insects from the past) are introduced each episode. Some may think that the computer-animated creatures are fake and pointless but I think they are good enough for the show.

Then, Season 2 finished and I think the storyline is still going quite well. But after watching the finale of Season 3, I am kinda disappointed. Removing two of the protagonists (Prof. Nick Cutter and Claudia Brown/Jennifer Lewis) from the show isn't such a good idea. Fans wouldn't want the series to be switching heroes. Besides, I think the new cast sucks. Danny Quinn and Sarah Page doesn't have what it takes to keep the show going. The acting is not really good either (especially Sarah). In my opinion, I think it is a good idea to end this show in Season 4. Prolonging the series wouldn't help much.

Nevertheless, I am going to continue watching this series until the end. I don't like being stuck halfway without knowing how the story ends. I really do hope that things will get better in Season 4. *sighs*

Harper's Island

Recently, I am hooked to a CBS series called 'Harper's Island'. Harper's Island is a horror/mystery/thriller series. It has only one season with 13 episodes. Each week, one or more characters will be killed off, leaving us guessing until the final episode to reveal who is the real killer.

The main thing I liked about this series is the horror part. Some of the kills are grisly, some of them real gross. That is why this series is rated 'PG', and not suitable for young children. The story itself is good. A group of friends and families went to Harper's Island to attend the wedding of Henry Dunn and Trish Wellington. It was a happy occassion until people started missing one by one. There is a killer lurking on the island (motive still unknown), and he is killing the guests one by one.

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD (Stop reading here if you wanna watch the whole series without knowing anything about it)
.
.
.
.
.
.

So far, the latest episode is episode 8. Those that are killed include:

Cousin Ben, Uncle Marty, Reverend Fain, Kelly Seaver, Lucy, Hunter, Booth, Thomas, Richard, Malcolm, Deputy Garrett, Cole Harkin, and J.D.

And the killer may be one of them below:

Beth, Katherine, Sully, Henry, Trish, Shea, Shane, Nikki, Maggie, Madison, Jimmy, Danny, Chloe, Sheriff Mills, Cal, and Abby.

At the end of episode 8, Madison is still missing and there was blood on Henry's hand when J.D was discovered. So for my blog readers who watch this show, who do you think is the killer? Personally, I think it might be Maggie, the manager of Candlewick Inn. Motives are still unclear but she is the most probable suspect now. There might also be two or more killers. Well, we never know until the ending is out.

Really wish to know what will happen next. Can't wait for tomorrow!

Discipline

In my opinion, discipline is a hard thing to build in oneself. Everytime I try to do something, I will stray off in the end because I don't have good self-control. For me, it is quite hard to focus on a job at hand. Is it because I am a Gemini who has a fluttery heart? Or is it because for my love of freedom and not wanting to stuck at doing something for a long time?

These few days, I have been trying to build my discipline. There is a discipline for almost everything. Don't sleep too much. Don't laze on the bed after the alarm rang. Don't procrastinate on doing a task...and blah blah blah. I need a lot of mental power to fulfil all the tasks at hand, especially one really important task (which is a secret for now). That is why I need something to constantly remind of 'discipline' so I can finish what I started or what I am going to start.

A headband, a ring, or a wristband maybe? Oh well...

A new phone and a new number

Woot!

I finally got a new phone today (as my old one broke down already). And the phone I got is........

iPhone 3G!

This high-tech smartphone has a lot of functions and I am still very not used to it. Hopefully I can conquer it soon cause it is a real hassle to figure what do what. Anyway, for those who know me, my new number is.... (I put it on Facebook so you can go check it out).

Finally, a new phone after 2 years!

Ta-ta Motorola

On Saturday night, my Motorola PEBL phone's screen went blank suddenly. And that is the end I ever saw of the screen. Now, I am stuck with a phone that is working but without a screen. How shitty is that...

Well, I have used this phone for quite some time and it is time to get a new one. Still deciding between a Storm or iPhone, gonna check out the stores tomorrow. These smart phones are gonna cost more with an extra monthly data plan. This means an increase in monthly expenses. Zzzz....

Gonna scrimp and save now. Hopefully, I can get a new phone tomorrow. I feel so disconnected with the world without a proper phone. Can't even see who called me... :(

Crash of Air France 447

The ocean is a scary place as its huge body of water makes up about 70% of our world. Natural elements in and around the ocean can be very dangerous if not being cautious. On June 1 2009, Air France Flight 447, on a schduled international passenger flight from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Paris, France crashed in the Atlantic Ocean. On June 2 2009, some debris of the plane were found in the ocean. So far, no survivors have been found.

This accident is by far the deadliest in the history of Air France. The cause is still unkown as the blackbox of the plane is not found. Air France representatives said there is no hope for survivors. On June 3 2009, a memorial was held in Notre Dame de Paris, to commemorate the victims of this incident.

May the victims rest in peace...

It is quite sad actually that this accident happened. 228 lives were lost just like that. Nature can be very cruel sometimes. That is why we must learn to love nature and treasure it before more unfortunate events take place.

Choices

I walked along the forest edge,
Looking for the bird I am supposed to catch;
I stumbled upon two paths instead,
Wondering and thinking which one I should tread...

One path led to the left of me,
Of which I can see a big city;
The people there seemed so happy,
With riches like this, I am sure they will be...

The other path led to the right,
Winding so badly it gives me a fright;
The land is dry and cracked and barren,
But I heard from people that diamonds are hidden...

As I stood there thinking which path to take,
I realized there's only one decision to make;
It doesn't matter which path I should choose,
As long as I make sure I am not confused...

From this situation I have learnt a lesson,
Every path you take makes you a different person;
So think wisely whenever you ponder,
There are way too many things for us to wonder.

Note*
This is a poem I wrote after I graduated some time in December. I always believed that a person will have a choice in their lives of which path they should take. Not one person is bound by rules or any circumstances that they can't make their own decision. Each path will make you a different person, so I sincerely hope that you readers will always think twice before embarking on a new path. Godspeed and good luck!

what a lucky day! =)

Wow, today is the first time I actually won a lottery in the United States. I have bought different type of lotteries before and I finally got one tonight. I actually won a New York Win 4 lottery with fifty cents Straight and Box. The payout will be around $2000+ but I am not sure yet as I haven't collect the winnings yet. Today is definitely a lucky day for me. I really hope that my luck will be good throughout the following months, in terms of financial and most importantly, my career too. But it all depends on God and my motivation. Well, whatever it is, I am definitely happy on this lucky day!

Prison Break: The Final Break

Well, I thought Prison Break ended on Season 4 episode 22 but I was wrong. There is a special 'movie'-like episode, which is episode 23 and 24 combined together. This episode tells the last four years of Michael's life.

After watching it, I think this episode is really great...

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!

The Final Break tells the story of Michael trying to break Sara out of the Miami-Dade penitentiary. Sara is arrested because she killed Christina Hampton (Michael's mother). She was brought into prison and the story begins with Michael and gang finding a way to break her out. This episode is really interesting and fun to watch as you can see the situation in the women's prison. T-Bag and the General is also in the men's prison next to Sara's. Gretchen was there too (quite a nice scene when she helped Sara escape from the guards). The Final Break shows how Sara got the snake-like scar behind her right shoulder. Besides that, it shows how Michael really died. The final scene is really touching where Sara and Linc were watching the cd recorded by Michael before he died. I guess all the viewers are really glad as they are finally free....

In conclusion, a great series with a great ending! Hope we can have more interesting series like this in the US.

i'm sick :(

My sore throat has been going on for two days. After eating 'char kuay teow' and chicken skewers on Monday, I fell sick. My throat is getting sore and I nearly lost my voice on Tuesday. Besides that, things are getting worse. Got a slight fever, feeling fatigue. I am really crossing my fingers now and can only pray to God that it is not the swine flu which is really scary in New York City now. Need to drink plenty of fluids to replenish myself (that means more trips to the toilet). Hopefully, it is not the swine flu. If not, this is tata for me.

Something Cool in Facebook

Today while browsing in Facebook, I found out a cool secret from one of my friends. While in Facebook, you can do this: Press up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, enter, and then scroll down with your mouse. You will see a cool effect that appears in Facebook. The effect even moves when you type. I never thought Facebook had something like that. The code is originally for a really old video game called 'Contra', where you can start the game with 30 lives if you enter that code. Why would Facebook use this code for this hidden special effect? Well, no one knows now but what I know that the people at Facebook are a creative bunch indeed. Keep up the good work!

Prison Break series Finale

One of my favorite U.S tv series, Prison Break ended last Friday on May 15th 2009. Four seasons altogether, I personally think that it is a great series. The protagonist, Michael Scofield is an intelligent engineer that deliberately rob a bank and went to prison to save his brother, Lincoln Burrows when he was framed for killing the vice-president's brother. And that's how the story starts...

From the breakout in Fox Rivers (Season 1) to the cross-country manhunt (Season 2) to the prison in Panama (Season 3) and finally the operation to steal Scylla (Season 4), I think that four seasons is enough for this series. Although it is a bit sad that this series ended, dragging on too long won't help much either.

The ending of Prison Break is pretty good. Michael died at the last episode because of his sickness. I never expected that at all. The last scene at Michael's grave during sunset is really heartwarming where his close friends and girlfriend gathered to visit him each year. Actually, there are some rumors about Michael faking his death and there would be a special episode discussing the missing four years but those are all fake. The directors of the show discussed with Wentworth about the ending of the character and decided that this is the best ending for Prison Break. Besides that, the other characters also finally got back with their family members.

All in all, Prison Break is a great series. For those who hasn't watch it yet, you should try it. I bet you will love it. Peace out!
Bye Michael Scofield!

Lost Season 5 Finale

After watching the season 5 finale of Lost, I really wondered what will happen next. Lost has always been one of my fav tv shows. The sense of adventure and mystery is always there, always making the viewers guess what will happen next. In season 5, Lost took the viewers into a time-traveling season, where the Losties are seperated, some in the past and some in the future.

I really liked the last moment of the season finale where Juliet fell into the shaft. I thought she died but she didn't. The final scene of the episode shows Juliet trying to detonate the hydrogen bomb by hitting it with a piece of rock. Finally, she succeeded and the screen went white and the episode ended. Many questions are still unanswered and I have some thoughts myself:

1) Did Jacob arrange for the Losties to be on the island? During the flashbacks, it seems that Jacob is involved in one part of their lives.

2) So what will happen now after Juliet detonate the bomb? Will everything return to normal and will they land at the LAX airport? Or more bad things are gonna happen?

Anyway, season 6 will be the last season of Lost and I am really looking forward to it. Hope the show will have a great ending. Producers, dont let us down!

Pandemonium!

Lately, a lot of bad things have been happening in my life. I mean, not really 'in' my life, but to the people around me and some people I know. One of my friends just got fired from the place I work yesterday. At that time, she was so angry because of the reason she got fired and she got into an argument with the manager. I was shocked by the sudden turn of events because I never expected that to happen. I can see she was sad and angry at the same time but there's really nothing she can do.

---------------------------------------

In my old university, it was sad to see that two of my good friends has fallen out because of a small matter. When I was still there, things were fine. We had dinner together, went to Wal-Mart, play DotA, and stuff like that. But things took a bad turn during the Spring graduation day. I am not sure if it is a misunderstanding or not but since that day, these two friends never talked. I just hope that they can put aside their differences and one of them will take the initiative to say sorry try to make up or something.

---------------------------------------

Then my younger bro is in some kind of trouble, again. I can't really discuss his troubles here but I really hope he can solve it on his own since he started it by repeating the same mistake. Please be sensible since you are turning 21 soon and stop doing all the stupid things. At this time, I really wish I have super powers so I can help solve all these problems but...I can only pray and hope for now...~

Happy Mother's Day

It is Mother's Day once again. This year, Mother's Day falls on a Sunday, and the weather is nice and sunny out there. Too bad, I have to work. Anyway, it doesn't matter since I am in the United States and my mum is at my hometown.

Yesterday night, I called and wished her Happy Mother's Day. It was good to hear her voice. How I wished I could celebrate Mother's Day with her. Being in the U.S for about six years, it has been a long time I last met my family and friends. Went back home once in 2004 and that's it. I really hope that I will have the chance to go back soon. Too many catching up to do between family and friends. *thinking*

In the restaurant where I worked, I was really happy seeing people having parties and celebrating birthdays and Mother's Day. There are a few touching moments but I will discuss that in my blog next time.

All right, it is time for me to go to work now. Hope everyone who read this had a wonderful time today. Love your mum, Happy Mother's Day!

Something to learn in Business

Today, I stumbled upon these business parables while I was browsing around. I found them to be quite amusing but true at the same time. So, I decided to share with all of you these funny yet you-can-learn-something business parables.

Parable Number 1:
A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A small rabbit saw the crow, and asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long? The crow answered: "Sure, why not." So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Management Lesson:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Parable Number 2:
A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy. Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull. They're packed with nutrients." The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it actually gave him enough strength to reach the first branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Management Lesson:
Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

Parable Number 3:
A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold; the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field. While the bird was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on it. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, it began to realize how warm it was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon, began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing andcame to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him!

Management Lessons:
1) Not everyone who drops shit on you is your enemy.
2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
3) And when you're in deep shit, keep your mouth shut!

Parable Number 4:
The boy rode on the donkey and the old man walked. As they went along, some people remarked "It was a shame the old man was walking and the boy was riding.! " The man and boy thought maybe the critics were right, so they changed positions. Later, they passed some people that remarked, "What a shame, he makes that little boy walk." They decided they both would walk! Soon they passed some more people who thought they were stupid to walk when they had a decent donkey to ride. So they both rode the donkey! Now they passed some people that shamed them saying "How awful to put such a load on a poor donkey." The boy and man said they were probably right so they decided to carry the donkey. As they crossed a bridge, they lost their grip on the animal and he fell into the river and drowned.

Management Lesson:
If you try to please everyone, you will eventually lose your ass.

All right, did you guys enjoy them? Happy learning..!!

How to tell if an egg is still fresh

While I was thinking what to cook for lunch today, I thought about eggs. I wanted to cook something with eggs but the problem is I forgot how long the eggs have been sitting in the refrigerator and if they are still fresh or not. So, I visited my best friend (Google) and here's what I found out:

Eggs can last about 3 to 4 weeks in the refrigerator. For a more detailed freshness test, you can take them out for a swim. First, take a bowl and fill it with enough water to cover a whole egg. Then, put the egg(s) in the bowl.

Result:
If the egg sink and lie down at the bottom, then it is still fresh.
If the egg stand on one end and bob in the bowl, then it is semi-fresh.
If the egg floats, then it is old and spoiled and should be discarded.

Using this guide, I tested the eggs and it is semi-fresh. But in the end, I went out and bought lunch cause I was too lazy to cook. :p

last day, graduation day, and a birthday...

Today is my last day working at the Fatty Fish japanese restaurant in Glen Cove. Business was pretty slow as it was raining the whole day (it's gonna rain for the next 3 or 4 days too QQ). Although I had only worked for 9 days, it felt like a long time. The friends I met there is a wonderful bunch. Yesterday night, we went for karaoke to celebrate David's green card and sorta, my farewell. Exchanged a few phone numbers so that we can keep in touch. And I am hoping that we can still hang out together some time soon. I am gonna miss them for sure.

Today is also Spring graduation day at IUP. Since I cant attend, I called a few of my friends after I finished work. It has been a long time since I last called them so it was kind of a happy thing for me as I congratulate them for their graduation. Here, I sincerely wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

Lastly, today is also Bryan's birthday. Cant attend too, so just wished him Happy Birthday throught the phone. May he sail smoothly for the rest of his time at IUP. I kinda missed the times that I spent there and how I wished I am there now to witness all these events. Well, I guess for a lonely life at New York City, the best thing I can do is to talk through the phone to catch up the old times from all my beloved friends...

First Day of May

April 2009 came and went in a flash. All of a sudden it is the first day of May, which is also Labor Day where everyone is having a good rest from work or having fun elsewhere.

For me, I had lobster (which I don't really like but ate it cause it's the only food) for lunch which my friend bought to celebrate his victory in getting a green card. I am happy for him too as he can finally be a citizen of the United States. Today, the restaurant is packed and busy like hell. But luckily, I managed to keep my cool today and everything went smoothly. I told my boss that I will be quitting on Sunday as I wished to look for a better job.

Last two days, I read my horoscope and it says for this week, I gotta make sure and decide what I really want in life. As a Gemini, my life is like a butterfly, fluttering to and fro without any purpose, no goals in life. Well, in reality, I have dreams but no goals. My life is like a fantasy movie with no definition in real life. That is why I wanted to change. Living life like this for the past few years is no laughing matter anymore. I really wished for a stable job with a stable income. But alas, that is also too hard for me. Well, I don't know how my life will turn out but I know one thing is for sure, I don't have much time left...

Swine Flu

For the past week, the swine flu has become a popular topic among many people. It came suddenly, a highly contagious disease that affects the respiratory system. In United States, New York has the highest number of affected so far, but luckily none had been fatal. It is discovered that most of the affected has been to Mexico, where the disease supposedly originated from. In Mexico, there are several cases of this swine flu that led to death. That is why a lot of health organizations are now sending precautions and warnings to people to keep them safe from this disease.

To learn more about the swine flu, you can visit this
link, a fact sheet from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). I just hope that everyone will be safe and please take precaution before it is too late. Wear a mask, wash your hands, do whatever to keep you safe. Prevention is always better than cure.

A 30% good and 70% bad day...

The Good

I walked toward the entrance of the vegetarian restaurant. I stood there...waiting. (Today's my first day at work at a new Japanese restaurant. I am waiting for someone to come pick me up to work at the designated place). Suddenly, a girl walked toward me from across the street. As she came closer, I realized she's my classmate whom I had not seen for five years. Then she asked me, "Are you going to work at *blank* restaurant?" And I was like, "What a small world! Yeah!" And then we started catching up on old times. I was quite happy to know that someone I was gonna work with someone I knew, so things should be a tad easier. Never did I thought...

The Bad

As I reach the restaurant, I can see that it was a small one. About fifty seats overall, and a few seats at the sushi bar. No carpet, so no vacumming. The dining area looks pretty good, nice atmosphere and lighting. BUT the kitchen is a mess. And the system too. The corridors are so narrow that it is hard for two people to pass each other, much more when we are carrying food in or out of the kitchen. The worst thing is the drinks are located along the narrow corridor. This make things even messier. Glasses and china easily fell to the floor because of the narrow corridor. Waiters pass each other all the time and I think it is very dangerous as some of the food items are hot. Another thing is the salad, which uses up to five ingredients. You need so many steps just to make a salad which is bullshit. Some of the ingredients can even be mixed beforehand to save trouble. Lastly, I made a mistake today and one of the waiters, (all of them are pretty nice except this one who thinks he is the best) began to yakkety-yak-yak. I was like, "Who the hell doesn't make a mistake before?"

All in all, this is a bad place to work IMO but I am still gonna need to work there for a bit (an undisclosable reason). I don't know if it is me or I am not used to the place yet, but so far so bad for me. Hope that everything will be well in days to come.

The Shooting Star

I stood on top of the grassy hill,
Trembling slightly with a chill,

I looked up at the darkened sky,
Feeling a gentle breeze brush by...

She sat on her bed near the window,
Cluthing tightly at the wet pillow,
Tears streamed down from her eyes,
Feeling sad, beacause she promised not to cry...

Just then, a shooting star flashed by,
It brightened up the darkened sky,
I saw the star as it went by,
And at that time, her tears began to dry...

Even though we are far away,
Love is strong, I should say,
Whatever sadness that comes your way,
I will love you, protect you, come what may...

Note:
This is a poem I wrote some time ago about the idea of a long distance relationship. In my opinion, the number one cause for breakups among couples is long distance. Therefore, I wish that every couple can withstand the trials of a long distance relationship. Always remember, love is the strongest thing of all.
